About the role

Spotlight is a fast-growing firm, and our Contracts & Legal Operations function is expanding to match. Contract volume is outpacing current headcount, our compliance obligations are growing alongside our business, and we need a motivated, detail-driven intern to help us keep everything organized and moving. This is a structured, high-impact role with clear ownership, direct mentorship from the Contracts Manager, and real deliverables from day one.

This role is designed to give you real exposure, not just observation. By the end of the summer, you’ll have practical grounding in commercial contract structures at a working consultancy, hands-on experience with U.S. and international data privacy compliance frameworks (GDPR and CCPA/CPRA) as they apply to an operating business, contract risk-spotting skills, and fluency with legal operations tooling including tracking systems, version control, and cross-functional coordination. You’ll work directly with the Contracts Manager during a period of high visibility and organizational growth.

What you’ll work on

• Maintain and expand the master contract terms tracker — data entry, flagging missing Data Processing Agreements, standardizing entity names, and spotting non-standard clauses for manager review.

• Organize and cross-reference the compliance documentation library covering GDPR, U.S. federal, and CCPA/CPRA frameworks, keeping materials current and easy to navigate.

• Support the SOW/MSA administrative workflow: version control, redline logging, signature tracking, renewal and expiration alerts, and follow-ups.

• Draft first passes of routine, template-based contract clauses or correspondence for Contracts Manager review.

• Support short-term projects including reorganizing the contracts drive and Quickbase system to incorporate vendor contracts alongside client agreements.

• Attend company events, expand your professional network, and contribute to the broader culture at Spotlight.

Clear communication. You write well and communicate professionally. You can draft a follow-up email, summarize a document accurately, and ask a clear question when something is unclear.

Genuine curiosity. You don’t need a business or pre-law background to succeed here — you need to be interested in how organizations manage agreements, risk, and compliance. A wide range of academic backgrounds are a strong fit: business, mathematics, English, history, communications, or any research-driven field.
